This used to be the thread for the Signature Memoizer

The ground was broken with the Signature Memoizer and as the technology matured new possibilities were uncovered. They have been implemented in the all new Advanced Targeting Device.

This device, once found, will add some new ways of using yor ships targeting computer. The device can be upgraded with ROM's found throughout the Transcendence universe, but even at it's lowest level, it provides some functionality.

Some of the features are activated by using the Targeting Device (press 'U then 'T) and some you access from the External Interfaces Dock Screen of your ShipInterior (provided by the DockScreenFramework).

As a default level 0 device, you can use it as what is called a DirectPoint Targeter. What this means is, that after using the device, the object that is closest to your current forward angle will be targeted. Ever needed to target a station in the middle of a swarm of baddies? Look no further, just point and target.

If you are so lucky as to have upgraded the device, you will gain access to the memoization techniques of the old Signature Memoizer. You can save a target and restore it later. Useful for saving mission targets, or remembering where that Tinker was in system X. So, set a target in a system, and if it still exists when you return to that system, you will be able to recall it.

The next upgrade level takes the memoization technology to the max. Always active, it scans and remembers the ships you have faced and destroyed. At any time, you can enter the Wreck Scanner, and browse through all of the wrecks in the current system that you have encountered, studying their inventory at leisure. If you find something of interest, drop a Wreck Marker, and use the system map to locate your looting targets.

Finally, at the highest upgrade level, you get the best. Selective Targeting is a mixture of sophisticated logic and advanced DockScreen manipulation. Set up criteria for the kind of object you want to target, and use the Advanced Targeting Device. You will now only be targeting objects that match your criteria. Need to take out the Behemoths first? Set up a criteria to match them, and target ahead.

----------------------------------------------

This mod has been lying around, waiting to be cleaned up and released. I actually wanted to add some more targeting modes, but oh well... not enough time.

Let me know if there are any bugs. Also I would like feedback about the balance of the items. Are they too expensive, cheap, rare etc...
If you think there are any criteria that should be added to the Selective Targeting mode, let me know, and if it's not impossible, it will go in the next version.

As always, have fun! Link to mod on Xelerus

wow, that's a pretty cool device! :D

It would be nice to have a version that is activated by a rom, and then you can use it in a new menu of the ship main dockscreen, just like a targeting computer v2 or something.

I see what you mean, but I believe this would require a modded ship.
Hmmm. I will look into it. Maybe it is possible to mod the Player Dockscreen alone...
*a bit later*
Turns out it could be possible.
Dig-Dug - could you please expand on your idea... :)

well, what i mean is: use your Memoizer mod from inside the main dockscreen of the ship (as a new menu entry)
The menu entry will be deactivated at the beginning. When you use a rom consumable, it installs (activates) the menu entry so you can use it.

What do you think ?

In this way you don't have to keep an item to use in the cargo bay, and it looks like an improvement of a targeting computer rom.

I like the idea. It would make for a nice integration. I will definitely make a version of this.

My reasons for making it as a usable item with an invoke key, was thinking that quick access could be required. I am still not sure if this is of importance.

Another reason is the standalone nature of the mod. Changing the users dockscreen is doable, but it is hard to integrate with other mods, and may break under some circumstances.

I will try to look into a version of the dockscreen that is just modified to add a hook we can then call into, this way we could add actions on the fly. (Would be nice to have such an implementation standardized across mods.
That way we could just say "mod requires 'ShipInteriorHook mod")

What are your thoughts on this. Maybe have 3 different versions? :D

Shameless bump. Original post has been updated, and a new mod released, replacing the Signature Memoizer. Please read and comment.
