So I made this killer Auton just to beat the tar out of everything that comes up in the 'random arena' (for lack of a better term) starting screen, which I occasionally use as a screensaver, and I thought to myself "Quick Play".
Having just beat the game (again, but newly for v.99c) both straight and modded, I really don't feel doing it all over again anytime soon. What about a 'QuickPlay' or 'Survival Play' option that let's you pick your starting ship like normal, but then dumps you into the 'random arena' to see how long you can last against the spawned enemies?
It would be a great option for modders, as we would be able to test new ship designs for play balance against a variety of other ships without going thru the 2 or 3 days (or hours ) worth of 'normal' gameplay to encounter all the different levels & types of enemies.
If anybody has a systems mod that does the same thing, I'll take it

I've thought that would be cool too, especially if it spawned two ships plus you. Think of all the loot! There'd have to be a station to install stuff for you.

it's better if the game mode name is "Star System Domination"
then we can:
- pick waht ship will we use,
- pick friendly "escort" ship type, just like stormhawk say,
- pick enemy difficulty
plus a homebase with a complete facilities (dry dock, item shop, weapon dealer, etc) and an advanced defensive system with walls (like battle arena maximus)
and enemy base that just looks like our homebase where the enemy ships will spawn from.
we will win the game if we destroy enemy base, loose it if we're dead
make sure there will be no stargate.

I will update this mod soon, but would like to get some feedback on how it should play.

Just posted a huge update to it. It is now a quite large mod and includes a station, some "gameplay" and, well, stuff... I'm too tired to go over it right now, but have a download over at xelerus, and give it a spin. The first player who reaches lvl 13 in a non godmodded version, receives a present!! (mod request perhaps?? )
Please let me know any thought about this. There is bound to be some bugs, and it might need to be balanced quite a bit to be really enjoyable.

I played and it is awesome! One bug and one suggestion though. The bug was in the Shop n stuff's remove device screen. There was no continue button and the game errored out.
The suggestion, though I don't know how you'd do it, is to let the player choose their starting level. Other than that this is an awesome mod. Good Job!

I have plan to let the player control the starting level and other variables. Different game 'modes' could also be nice.

Yeah - that would be a bug. Or more like a bad configuration. The items for each level are randomly generated from some lists, and they need quite a lot of tweaking. I will make sure there is ammo and armor in the next version.
Btw. If you dropped in on irc, maybe you could help me balance it out more. That would be cool.
