Heh, even better, the "Teraton Thingamajig" could be a small enough craft to be used in the figther carrier mods. The "tubs" can be a (heh) modification to the 'fighter' as a penetrator. Boarding ship. Mainly militant in use, but with a small cargo space could probably loot like some ton or three from your ship before detatching, leaving armor depletion damage. The penetrator would of course count as kinetic damage to a massive value.

Essentially the fighter is a swarm auton upwards to however many the carrier can hold/launch, so heavy armor, relatively weak weapons (lvl 1 or most 2) and dink arse small generator. Heh, one might have to actually create a 10MW reactor for these things. And less powerful engines. Seeing as the mass is likely less than 10 tons with armor, weapons, drive, and reactor... it'd be like maybe a propellant thruster of some sort... could be ionic... but thrust would be low, like .01c (or less), but given their small size and weight, they'd still do circles around you. The "tubbed" version would be additional armor, like station hull armor platting, probably add more mass, and even if increased the drive power, would run slow.

Which means, the fighter carrier would have to have some sort of knock out weapon. Mess up your systems and navigation. Which would make it difficult to fight back, so if that ship comp mod ever gets finished, it could be used as a template for player ship AI, namely separating weapons from main ship functions, putting an emphasis on weapons reboot priority first, then main, then nav. Weapons of course controlling armaments, main being energy and thus shielding, and then nav being movement.

And that was way more than I originally intended to write...

Thingamabober is kinda small for a plasma drill, isn't it?

Commonwealth Praetorian-class Missile Ship. Designed as heavy tactical support for the Centurion gunships, the Praetorian comes equipped with omnidirectional TeV 9 and an array of Lucifer missiles. Got an Ares dreadnought heading your way? Send out the Praetorians - their missile payload will make quick work of any singular threat.

The Praetorian was designed to match the speed of the Centurions and keep flight wings together but it lacks in thrust and maneuverability. Its omnidirectional turret and heat-seeking Lucifers, however, should be more than enough to make it competent against more maneuverable vessels.

:P It's all there is at the moment ^^

Unless you feel like making another to use as the plasma drill.

Nice CW ship btw!

Would it be doable to setup that giant crystal so that as it is shot with energy weapons, it stores up the energy until a certain point and then unleashes a devastating shockwave attack?

Also, having it follow you if it sees you, and keep following you until it senses that you've been EMPed and then it will go somewhere else?

That would essentially make the crystal a harmless "thing" that disables ships around it (drops shields, EMPs, disables weapons, etc....), but if you sit there blasting it with lasers it'll eventually destroy everything nearby. (Which would make it a lot of fun to lure over to one of them Sung fortresses.. :)

I beleive that it shouldn't be too hard to do. The only function I'd need to know is one to retrieve the amount of damage dealt.

That is definitely doable (and sounds fun). If it's cool with you, I will make a version that you can use as a base. I wont be using any particular graphics, or balancing the crystal, just making the script that will make it tick. I'll post it here in a day or two when it's done...

I'd like to see how you implemented that! I think I have plans for a shield like that too, lying about somewhere... Also, its sorta similar to my thundercloud line of shields, but those retaliate after every shot, not built up.

So, I figure I better deliver (my mouth is too big sometimes) :)

It is not as well behaved as I would like it to be, and it could use a lot of love in tweaking the details. But it should serve as a base. Let me know if there are any questions, or some ideas you would like to implement but can't get started on.

If you want, I can start including links to rotation states and masks in my posts so that anyone can download and use the ship graphics. I don't really care who uses them since I hate waiting for people to ask permission, just don't do anything stupid with them. I don't want them getting plastered on a mod forum as the ship with 99 particle beams and unlimited shields.

The Praetorian is absolutely stellar. One of the better models I've seen as far as fitting the existing Transc style. It looks to me like a beefier version of the Wolfen. Keep up the good work.

Wolfen? No, the centurion! It is a piece of art however.
I know the wolfen like the back of my hand, since I've stared at it for so long while making the mk II.

Anyways, Aeonic IS a better modeler overall, especially since he uses textures, and I'm too lazy to make [and too inept in that part also] and put textures on :P

Man, I totally forgot about the centurion. I just saw those Wolfen-like engines and the two prongs on the front and thought "Wolfen." Also, I didn't mean to imply that your models weren't top-notch, because, they definitely are. They just need better textures!

Wolfen and Centurion both use the same model for engines. I believe its the same model used for drive items. Praetorian uses an imitation of that model.

BTW, the textures that I'm using are NOT UV-mapped. All you have to do to use them is assign them to parts of the model, set the image file, and and decide how you want it displayed (cube, sphere, repeats, etc...) Of course, it helps a lot to have the textures in the first place. I mostly borrowed a bunch from Freespace 2, Star Wars, background texture websites and a few are custom made.

(Not to knock myself, I do know how to UV-map stuff, just not with Blender which I use for rendering the ships. :P And the way Transcendence displays the ships, they usually look better with modeled details than textured ones. Textures are mostly only important for plating.)

The only texture used on Praetorian there is some aluminum plating from Star Wars. Everything else is detail.

Anyone ever watched the cartoon: "Duck Dogers?" There was an episode where he was fighting the Tasmanian devil, and both were beamed down to the surface of "Massitivo, the Living Planet." The planet was basically one big crystal. Your crystaline ship reminded me of it, Aeonic. I love your image gallery; what image renderers do you use?
