If you're patient enough to keep those 4 from the korolov charon missions, they work on light iocrym plates. Put in beginner's luck because there was a taikon and teraton fairly early for me so I did a lot of hit and run tactics to get the 50000 rins for 4 plates.. Good times. :)

I found those in my first Heretic-reaching game, but I didn't see any outside of heretic in my second. Of course, I didn't find a patch spider until heretic that game either. The RNG can be mean.

Both times that I found the plates they were at a Taikon Ventures. Last game I played had TONS of Thor's, Taikons and Adventure's. I'm sure there was a Thor's and Adventure's every system til there were Teratons and Taikons and then those were in every system til Heretic. Good stuff.

In my current play through I have cataloged at least 5 light plates all from Taikon... What/where are these mythical regenerative barrels we're talking about?
My first mod, mostly done, still balance testing.

On both playthroughs that I finished, I got 4 plates of regenerating nanos from the Charon mission. NOT the save the base mission but the let it die and kill everything for revenge mission. This may be a random drop, I didn't check the xml.. There's also the very slim chance of getting 4 originally with the freighter. I store those at St. K's exit gate in a jettison box until I get the plates.

Edit: I just checked the xml for Charon and apparently I got VERY lucky both times.

Pretty sure you can order regen nanos from a corporate trading post, too.

Yes you can. I do every game, at least eight plates (two orders.) I usally put them on something level VII or VIII, then the second on Diamond Lattice (My personal favorite armor.) Add in a couple patch spiders, and without a lot of damage you never have to repair.
If you drop a bar of soap on the ground, is it dirty?
If a person is legally blind, and can suddenly see, is he breaking the law?
If a friend says he's going outside to get some air, what was he breathing before?

I did this (after using light ithalium treated with Orthosteel nanos.....+50 makes it seriously good armor)...and it went extremely well, desite my having to wait FOREVER for it to repair itself sometimes. Paired with a Taikon 200, it was amazing.

Another interesting thing:

The Iocrym Fracture Cannon (I'll call it IFC from now on) is possibly the best weapon I've ever used, with the possible exception of the Positron Lancer (I got one from the Huygens in Heretic, as well as an intact IFC from a sentry) and the Xenophobe Lancer.....it has great damage, it's pretty (eyecandy is a major thing I look for in a weapon), and for all the range isn't that good (and varies)....it's not exactly a Moskva. And it has one major advantage: Pteravores need not be a worry if you have a IFC. Simply point it at the den, and hold down the space bar, with small left/right arrow adjustments (only one or two taps each way).....and shortly the Lair and its inhabitants will no longer be a problem. Obviously this is best in the Wolfen, and is best done at ~3/4+ of the max range of the IFC.

I find it better than lamplighter.....by miles. You don't have to worry about projectiles getting through it....if you point it in the right direction, nothing is going to get through it.

It also deals VERY well with Sentries (Well, I coupled it with Gems of Contrition a few times when it got tough....but it cuts through the shield VERY fast, and then Om-nom-noms the armor nicely as well :) ). Just don't try using it against the command ship.....the IM90, Positron Lancer or/or Lamplighter are better for that.

However this is all countered by the fact you have to be really lucky to find one intact........

It's just so fun pointing it at a swarm of pteravores or gunships, and watching them "go away"

Basecracking-projectile soaking-swarmbusting-capital ship remover-"& much much moar" type weapons are rather rare......and it seems the only thing the IFC *can't* do is long-range sniping....

Much more fun than the positron lancer, for all the P-Lancer can kill the iocrym......

(Technically, the IFC can kill the command ship. Practically though, this means you have to be within range of the IAC [Iocrym Avalanche Cannon]....and close to the range of the repellers.)

Oh, and I used Alterecco's G.O.D mod to spawn a Hyperion reactor, lots of fuel, and an IAC........it's even more fun, albiet a bit game-breaking in Eridani (Still, it makes Arco go away quickly! :D ). Post-heretic will be.... interesting..... if this kind of weapon is *common*......and there's a LOOOOONG way to go until the galactic core. By which time I suspect plasma and positron will be useles.....or near useless.....

Judging by the level curves, they will be.

Endgame weapons are going to be pretty sweet...

If there's anything that can punch holes in Hierosteel, I want to see what it does to light titanium some time

But as it is, the Iocrym stuff is really really fun. :D

It'll one-shot it for the most part...
grav weapons with only 1 unit of damage won't, but anything else higher than that will.
