1. What types of missions are there in the game?
2. What types of missions are not in the game?
3. What types of missions have been suggested?
4. New suggestions?

I made this topic so that a complete list may be made to make brainstorming and discussion easier, and that missions that only appear in certain locations can be applied to others for better variety.

Please list in the format:

Question Number that best fits mission type. Type Header. Description if necessary (list appearances if applicable) further comments.

1. Escort. (Korolov, Militia, CSC) Expansion thoughts: Used to the max and possibly then some.

1. Defend Stationary Target (Agricultural Station, Point Juno) I like these. Expansion thoughts: Perhaps a few more would be nice. They are something of a change of pace from the other missions that is good.

1. (Seek and) Destroy Target (Militia, CSC) These are great if there is variety in target type and danger level. Expansion thoughts: Unique ships, unique missions. I like it where it is mostly though. Unless the Ringers or Teratons will give out missions...

1. Clear out a system of X type station. (Charon system). Expansion thoughts: Good where it is, I don't want many of these though.

1. Deliver X to Y (Black Market). Expansion thoughts: A bit of an easy mission.

1. Flyby X, [Y, Z...] (Commonwealth Fortress, CSC? Don't know if the recon mission is still there.). Expansion thoughts: dunno. A bit easy unless you have to take lots of fire on your way or have to sit at a spot for a while.

1. Obtain X from Y and bring it back (Point Juno). Similar to deliver X to Y mission.

3. scare/attract/divert target but do NOT destroy (BM, CSC). An interesting concept that makes a player take fire longer that a conventional battle.
3. Capture. Disable but do not destroy ship and escort it back.

4. Exploration missions. (Post #2).

note: I have no experience with BM missions.

EDIT: As you say, Foosaman.

4. Exploration missions. Have a non-linear stargate that somebody wants you to go through, explore the system, and come back. I don't think that would EVER get old, since it's what you're doing most of the time anyway. Throw in races that are unique to that branch or system, and it's really fun. Sort of a 'Commonwealth Exploration Corps' sort of thing.

I would suggest that you edit all of the 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s into your post, and leave the rest of the thread free for discussion.

Also possibly explore (without destroying them) X type of station or go to coordinates outside of blue lines and and explore/drop beacon there.

These are missions I've suggested.

Soon, I will write up another mission: Fear and Loathing in St Katherines, where you have to transport an case of antique narcotics for the black market containing two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half-full of cocaine and a whole galaxy of multicolored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers.... A quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

1 Obtain items in order to (help) manufacture new items (Rasiermesser, with dwarg loot)

I would like to see these expanded. Get W, X and Y, and then Z tinker will make you a fast omni-triple flenser.
Loot X Ares weapons and deliver them to Y Knott-killem and they will build you a long-range microwave oven...
Deliver 100 barrels of grain or rice to an ice farm and they will give you a special reactor which runs on vodka, cognac, beer, rum or other spirits.

Another mission possibility would be push missions. If you have a kinetic weapon, you can push things around. As I proposed in other posts:

You might have to push a friendly ship towards its location (or steer it) by shooting at it - of course you would then need to take care not to deplete its shields.

Or perhaps there is an enemy or object which is totally impervious to your weapons. You would need to push it away from a location, or into the sun to destroy it.

An early mission might simply be tidying up an area by pushing wrecks out of the way, but thats probably rather boring unless its a strictly short, one-off mission.

I don't know how much I like that idea. Pushing something with a weapon is pretty annoying, especially if it is capable of moving. However, if Tractor Beams or Magnetic Grapples were to be introduced, such a mission could be much more fun.

1. destroy target while minimsing wingman losses. (CSC does this for the unknown hostile, used to do the same with ares communes) Expansion: these are either too hard or too easy, depending on whether or not you have the jumpdrive and the right stuff. make targets and wingmen tougher.

One idea for a unique mission: you, a very heavy wingman force, and a large NPC fleet, engage a massive ares fleet lead by the supercapitial Olympus Mons. Make it so that the playership MUST intervene, can't go it alone, and can't take too long.

I'd also like it if there was a fleet commodore rank, which can only be obtained by doing missions as a fleet captain, and only one mission can be taken at each CSC. All would be unique and fun, and it would take multiple playthroughs to get them all.
