[suggestion] Station Shields

I got this idea a few years ago but never posted it. My idea was to allow stations to use shields. It would just be one of those fun things you could do with mods. Stations don't support using shields as far as I know.

This is a pretty good idea methinks, now its not so practical in the game because it would make life harder but a simple low powered shield would certainly work and not disrupt game balance to much. However coding wise I'm not so sure.

I've tried it. The stations don't use the shield, they just have it installed, like a misc device. That's why I'm requesting that it be supported by the stations.

There was a lengthy discussion a while ago, and we concluded that a station was simply too large for a shield.
Mechanics-wise, i would be useful having a shield resist one damage type and the armor another.

Ok. Another idea I had was backup shields, where you can install however many shields, and like weapons when one shuts down the other comes online, ready to save you.

Maybe George will put this into an upcoming version of Trans...? Has anyone posted this as a feature request on the trac before?
