I am overwhelmed, when I first go to find the ?Sverbard? Explorer ship I get messages that all those other research stations are being attacked by those Iocrym ships. I get there and I hardly have anytime to shoot them b4 they have the Research Station blown up.
What is the best thing to start off doing and what strategy works?!
PLEASE HELP!
I want to do all missions and cool stuff for all the stations and so far I can't do that.
What kinda weapons should I have to fight the Iocrym, and what strategy do I use with the Pteravores?
Need Heretic Strategy Advice!!!!

Well, I haven't been to Heretic in a while, (I'm only just starting a vanilla game now) but I know those Pteravores are the big killer. They may be small, but if they latch on to your ship, you're toast. After a while they pop off, but you need to refuel constantly while they are attached. Before they attack you, try Omni weapons and Tracking missiles -- lots of them, maybe even some fast firing missiles like the Raissermesser or Makayev range - even MAGs would help. They attack in packs, so be careful.
Be warned, when you kill a pteravore lair, lots of pteravores will suddenly swarm out!! Be prepared for this last wave!
Hope that helps! Have fun!

Ok, so here's how to beat heretic.
Go straight for MRAD and Huygens missions. Those are the easiest and fastest to do, if you know what you are doing. Sure, they involve long travel times, but if you hurry, you can complete MRAD very fast, and accept the Huygens one before the stations are destroyed. The Huygens one only needs to be ACCEPTED, so that this way, you can still get the rom and give it to the Svalbard even though the station is destroyed.
Then, once you have the two roms from the two missions, destroy the pteravores, and then accept the Svalbard mission while staying away from the dead pteravore stations (so that the revenge spawns aimed at you will not occur, as they have a risk of hitting the Svalbard if you are flying close by, but the revenge spawns will only attack the killer.) - then once the svalbard has completed the mission, dock with it, and then head to the iocrym control point (Still, make sure to stay away from the pteravores until the Svalbard has docked with the iocrym station.) - then give the two roms from the missions, so that the QZ will be deactivated, and go for the command ship and win!

Relevant trivia:
It is possible to beat heretic with no weapons btw - do the steps above, except go with the Svalbard, and have ICXs/longreachs to shoot down the pteravores.
And then use the gem of sacrifice combined with domina defend and then domina shatter to kill the command ship >:D

In theory, that means you could possibly finish the game *without firing a single shot*....although it would be tricky.Wolfy wrote:Relevant trivia:

No problems...btw if you want some fun, load up My own GodMod and just blow heretic up in a Phobos....you have unlimited fuel, so the pteravores can't hurt you!BlakeG228 wrote:Thanx for all the help!
Edit: Or use the Iocrym Command ship that's included, and tackle the big bad boss with his own ship!!

b) How will you get money to buy things so you can trade and then tithe? Remember... the challenge was not to fire a single shot! o.O
Maybe if one started with mining equipment (if minig lasers did not count as firing)
You could try to just fire as few shots as possible...
My first mod, mostly done, still balance testing.
