My application for a trademark has been approved, so now "Transcendence" is officially a trademark registered with the US Patent & Trademark Office. Woot!
Without trademark protection, there was a chance (though small) that some other company could call their game "Transcendence" and confuse things. Worse, if some other game company had registered "Transcendence" first we would have been legally forced to change the name.
Since I've become attached to the name, I'm glad that now we don't have to worry about that.
Anyway, nothing else changes. At some point I will change the "TM" on the site to an "(R)".

Very nice! Getting "R" rated to boot!
Curious, though, as there appears to be another game that goes by the same name. Doubt that they've registered it else you wouldn't have been able to, I don't think anyway.
Check it out here
Could force 'em to change their name now, if necessary?

They definitely don't have a registered trademark. It also seems like they are a paper-based game, not a computer game.FAD wrote:Curious, though, as there appears to be another game that goes by the same name. In any case, they look like a small operation. In general I am not worried about hobbyists or amateurs--I don't think they will ever get a large enough exposure to cause confusion (and if they ever do, then I guess having a registered trademark will help )
I was more worried about major game companies.
Thanks for mentioning it.
This game has embedded itself well into my heart and is also a staple in my gaming box--I play it more than any other, marketed or otherwise. So seeing the name in another's game tends to set an ill feeling and one needed to be mentioned.
Now that you have the big "R". makes a world of difference where concern is...concerned.
BTW, there's also a rock band called "Transcendence" and with a website as well, but I think that's out in a totally different ballpark here.

Hmm. On the subject of that other Transcendence game... I say force the little sons of... err... I'm getting carried away with my evil side, aren't I?
Well, Congratulations George, and may the force be with you... as well as luck, fortune, and coincidence. LoL.

I think everyone has become attached to the name. It would be hard not to. Transcendence is awsome name, and I don't think anyone (myself included) would want it to change.george moromisato wrote:

Congrats!
